This workshop would introduce the basics of qualitative research, Grounded Theory Method (GTM), and their application to health-related studies. Pros and cons of qualitative research as compared with quantitative research would be briefly discussed. To give audiences hand on experience of qualitative data analysis, Vincent would introduce and apply the QDA Miners of Provalis (a computer software for qualitative data analysis) to the following topics: thematic analysis, content analysis, qualitative memoing, coding, categorisation of views, text units, frequency counts of text units, salient points, excerpts, codebook (“analytical tree”), conceptual themes, as well as reporting of qualitative research. A few recent health-related studies that applied qualitative research would be presented.
