Adult & Continuing Education (recently opened, details below)
This section aims to provide a forum for the investigation of, and critical engagement with adult and continuing education topics in dynamically changing global, regional, national and/or local contexts. It views adult and continuing education broadly within a lifelong learning and education framework and as crucially important for the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. It welcomes both empirical studies and theoretical work that advance scholarship in the field as well as critical engagement with policy. Topics of interest include adult and continuing education in relation to: adult learning and literacies; learning modalities and technologies; citizenship; social and personal transformation; vocations, work and livelihoods; continuing professional development; social and community development; and social inclusion. It is open to explorations of the interface between adult and continuing education and ‘wicked’ problems such as migration, war, disease, inequality and climate change in a more-than-human world.
Arts Education (recently opened, details below)
The Arts Education section welcomes submissions from diverse global contexts that share and advance understandings and conceptualisations of arts education. This includes the role and impact of the arts in young people’s lives, schools and education more broadly, authentic and innovative pedagogical practices, and conditions for widespread implementation. These areas of focus include interdisciplinary studies and research related to any of the individual arts disciplines. Philosophical and theoretical papers, literature reviews and a range of research methodologies are accepted, provided that the methodology is rigorous and convincingly explained. Submissions should clearly outline the significance of the research with reference to purposeful action and the UN’s sustainable development goal of inclusive and equitable quality education for all. Please note that submissions only presenting descriptive accounts of data, teaching or course content are outside the scope of the Arts Education section.
Early Years Education (recently opened, details below)
Early years welcomes rigorous empirical and theoretical papers that examine all aspects of early childhood education and care in both formal (e.g. nurseries, daycare, school nurseries) and informal settings (e.g. home, community). Topics can include but are not limited to child development, early years policy (e.g. United Nations Sustainable Development Goals), early education practice, the importance of play, child autonomy, child voice, ethical issues, and equality, diversity and inclusion for all. Interdisciplinary papers from a variety of different country contexts in the Global South and North are welcomed. Submissions should make clear the theoretical and/ or empirical novel contributions of the paper, signalling how the work takes our thinking forward into new areas. In all submissions, careful attention should be given to ethical issues associated with research (both empirical and theoretical) involving young children.
