Description

These "FMIR Sinophonia Film Talks" are derived from an oral history project of Hong Kong-China film history that Dr. Ng and I have been working on since 2020, titled "A Study of Hong Kong Leftist Cinema (1937–1997): History, Survival, Legacy." On these events, four movies were screened, and Veteran filmmakers, such as Sze Yeung Ping (施揚平), the assistant director of Shaolin Temple 少林寺 (1982), Yim Ho (嚴浩), the director of Homecoming 似水流年 (1984), and Prof. Louisa Wei (魏時煜), the director of A Life in Six Chapters 蕭軍六記 (2021), appeared as guest speakers and shared their experience of making these films. Professor Ching May Bo from the City University of Hong Kong and Dr. Derek Lam from the Hong Kong University also joined to spark an academic discussion around Hong Kong cinema and its production culture.
