- Meeting with academic leaders: laid a foundation for Prof. LaPolla’s understanding of LC division for providing advice for the division (7).
- Research workshop: provided Prof. LaPolla with an initial overview of the research landscape at LC division, with Prof. LaPolla giving instant feedback to individual academic staff members who were present (13).
- Guest Lecture at LCS4793 Contrastive Study and Research of Chinese and English: Prof. LaPolla provided both the students (82) and subject lecturer with insights into the subject matters of Chinglish, C-E translation, and code-mixing.
- Guest Lecture at LCH2166 Analysis of English Grammar: Prof. LaPolla gave an overview on lexicogrammar and focused on interpersonal metafunction, strengthening students’ (49) understanding of and interest in the functional approach to language studies.
- Meeting on BA and AD schemes: After AD and BA LC scheme leaders’ presentation, Prof. LaPolla provided general feedbacks with a focus on incorporating A.I. into the curriculum.
- Divisional Seminar: Prof. LaPolla presented on the topic, Language is culture, elaborating on interaction between culture and language along history and across geographical borders. The seminar shed lights on teaching and research on language, language education, and linguistics, for the 15 or so academic colleagues who were present physically or electronically.
