Description

This subject introduces students to various theoretical and technological tools for understanding the linguistic and communicative phenomena and trends in the digital world. The knowledge and analytical methods taught in this subject, e.g., qualitative discourse analysis, social semiotics, and communication theories, will enable them to discover the underlying communicative and linguistic patterns characterising texts in the digital environments, shaping human communication, and benefitting language learning and application across different types of digital texts, e.g., advertisements, memes, and social media posts. Students will also be capable of planning, implementing and reflecting on their language learning experience with the conceptual and analytical skills, and the digital technologies introduced in the subject.
