Description
To enhance students’ learning engagement in my class, I encourage students to complete the in-class exercise before attending tutorial class. Next, I asked students to indicate their answers through the e-learning tool – Poll Everywhere during class under a limited time. Once students are aware that they could get extra in-class exercises marks through the Poll Everywhere system, they are more willing to do the exercise at home.Second, to enhance student's writing skills and confidence for taking examination, more past paper exercises with case analysis are provided for students to practice during the lecture class.
Third, real-life examples, case studies, video clips, and interactive discussions were adopted in lectures and tutorials.
In addition, assignment and group project guidelines were provided to students during the second week of the semester. Therefore students could start to do their assignments earlier.
Very favorable responses were received from students taking BHMH2109 Compensation and Performance. Feedback from students suggested that these methods of teaching could deepen their understanding for those complex theories and concepts of staffing. Due to improved teaching method, the average SFQ scores measuring teaching effectiveness of lecture and tutorial increased substantially, compared with last year SFQ average score.
