The Future of MOOCs Post-COVID Pandemic

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventParticipating in a conference, workshop, ...

Before the spread of the coronavirus in January 2019, online lectures and classes were well-established, culminating in the development of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) while remaining marginal additions to the traditional classroom and campus-based teaching and learning. Developments in technology supporting online learning, together with flexibility in delivery systems, allowed educational institutions to reach new student audiences, demonstrate the quality of their presentations and to form a channel for the internationalisation of their products and reputations. With the pandemic disrupting face-to-face teaching and campus interaction, online teaching became the only way to safely link students and staff while continuing the teaching and learning process. In my presentation I will argue that the pandemic has demonstrated that a strong and appropriate online presence, particularly in the form of MOOCs, will shape the future of educational provision and help access the flexibility of this approach to create a new education model.
