My research sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, wireless communications, and cybersecurity for 5G/6G networks and cyber-physical systems (CPS). I develop generative and efficient AI methods — including diffusion models, mixture-of-generative-AI-experts architectures, and adversarial generative training — to synthesize realistic, distribution-preserving network and attack data where labelled data are scarce, and to build robust, lightweight detectors deployable at the mobile edge. Complementary interests span physical-layer security, federated and transfer learning, and AI-native closed-loop security architectures for next-generation cellular networks.

Current work centers on generative AI for cyber-physical security, cross-scenario adaptation in 6G wireless networks, and agentic-AI-driven wireless systems, with active collaborations spanning Hong Kong, mainland China, the UK, Ireland, and France. This has produced publications in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (including an ESI Highly-Cited Paper), IEEE Access, China Communications, and IEEE GLOBECOM/ICCC, along with three filed patents and manuscripts currently under review at several top-tier IEEE journals and flagship conferences.

Dr Bilal Hussain is a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, and Information Technology in the Division of Science, Engineering and Health Studies (SEHS), College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He holds a dual Ph.D. in Information and Communications Engineering and is an IEEE Senior Member and a Registered Engineer with the Pakistan Engineering Council.

Before joining CPCE, he gained industry-collaborative research experience in reliability and predictive-maintenance machine learning, and earlier held university lecturing posts in Pakistan, where he founded IEEE Student Branches and an IEEE Communications Society Chapter. At CPCE, he serves as Subject Leader for AI-driven Cybersecurity Management, Computer System Principles, and Fundamental Computing in Engineering, and co-developed two new postgraduate subjects on IT & Web3.0 and AI/Analytics for Talent Management.

He is active in research-grant writing (RGC FDS and IIDS schemes), co-supervises Ph.D. students with Xi'an Jiaotong University, and serves on technical programme committees and as a reviewer for IEEE flagship journals and conferences, including recent Guest Editor roles for Sensors and Electronics (MDPI) special issues.
