[Submit]QESS: Enhancing Chinese Disciplinary Writing with Corpus Data for the Social Sciences

Project Details

Description

This project aims to use Moodle as a corpus-based tool to support Chinese academic writing activities for the social science discipline. Specifically, two Moodle plugin tools will be used: Glossary and Quiz. A corpus-driven glossary will be built to document the Chinese written expressions that social science students frequently used in their research reports. Moodle quizzes that support automated lexical mapping are also used. When students submit their essay drafts to those quizzes, the system can map specific terms found in the submitted responses to the items in the corpus glossary. The lexical mapping proposed in this project creates inductive learning opportunities whereby students analyze corpora data to assist the Chinese academic writing process.

Layman's description
