Project Details
Description
This 24-month research project investigates, assesses, and responds to the impact of generative AI on language education in Hong Kong, with a specific focus on second-language acquisition (English) in humanities subjects, also known as content and language integrated learning. The project aims to address research questions related to students' assessment for learning experience with generative AI. In particular, we will identify how the use of generative AI is changing students' writing habits and the writing process. We will examine the quality of student writing outputs in terms of their lexical density and sentence complexity, comparing human and AI writing. Furthermore, we will use the collected evidence to enhance teachers' readiness in preparing students for the strategic and ethical use of generative AI for learning purposes.
