Abstract

Co-published by St. James’ Settlement and the HK Jockey Club funded Community Classroom, this Chinese publication consolidated the visual study and design assignment outputs by my students from the subject “Teaching and Learning Methods” in the BA (Hons) in Art and Design Education programme. The subject sought to let students to appreciate, learn and document the declining craft of galvanized sheet metal (aka zinc) before it is forgotten in HK, covering the craft’s history in HK, some of the local masters in the field, its core skills, tools, and terminologies, the recognition of the artisans, as well as asking the students to design new innovative products based on the crafts learned, exploring new development and markets for the handicraft.
