Abstract

President Xi Jinping introduced the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area strategic development plan in 2017. The Greater Bay Area (GBA) has gradually become one of the strategic regions for national development. One of the most significant aspects of the GBA enlargement is to develop airport groups. This study used comparative analysis to compare the four main GBA international airports’ strengths and weaknesses to identify the appropriate position of Macau International Airport in the GBA airport hub. To this end, based on a series of aviation and transport measures, the study adopted a SWOT analysis to discuss the development of Macau International Airport. The recommendations on how Macau International Airport develops its strengths and avoids weaknesses based on its status quo are provided in this study.
