Green Fintech as a Future Research Direction: A Bibliometric Analysis on Green Finance and Fintech

Research output: Working paper

Abstract

Following the establishment of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact from the United Nations, central banks or other financial supervisory regulators from different countries have established different platforms to contribute to the sustainability of the environment from the financial aspect. These drive the attention of different firms to focus on green finance and FinTech as they believe that green finance and FinTech have undeniable roles in tackling the severe impacts of global climate change and maintaining sustainability. Moreover, they have become of great interest to financial practitioners and researchers. Despite practical developments, the literature on these two areas remains fragmented and unorganized. Given the convergence of the application of green finance and FinTech (Green FinTech) in most instances, we provide a structured analysis of the current situation and research development in these two areas based on bibliometric analysis. The results assist us in developing several future research directions, including focusing more on the investment aspect of green finance, the application aspect of FinTech, the regulatory environment of some developing countries, and engaging in more Green FinTech research.
