Incremental innovation of IAQ management in hotels: Specific framework for processes and activities

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This study adapts a theoretical model of generic business innovation to explore incremental innovation processes and management activities specific to hotel Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) management. Drawing on four hotel cases studies, the framework was refined to incorporate a verification phase, adjustments to process sequencing, and the identification of 29 distinct management activities. These activities were assessed for their degree of novelty. Reflections from case leaders offered insights into future directions for IAQ innovation. As a pioneering investigation, this research provides valuable theoretical and practical guidance for hotel groups and property managers aiming to enhance IAQ. It also contributes to the advancement of environmental and innovation management curricula within hospitality education. The findings underscore the significance of tailored management processes in achieving effective IAQ outcomes, offering a robust reference for future research and industry application.
