Abstract

In a power generation unit, the dynamic nature of a tangential coal fired boiler integrating with the complex NOx formation mechanism leads to a major difficulty for the prediction of NOx emission levels under different operating conditions. This paper suggests a simple method to tackle the problem. A model was developed by considering NOx formation mechanisms, burner configuration and air flow distribution. With the aid of the data obtained from operation, an empirical equation was developed for the prediction of NOx emission levels of a conventional tangential coal fired boiler that is not equipped with any de-NOx facility.
